Over the weekend Freed Maxick’s employees took part in the majestic sport of Dragon Boat Racing at the annual Hope Chest Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Festival in Buffalo, NY.

From Hope Chest Buffalo’s website,”For those unfamiliar with the sport, dragon boating is a boat of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steer person. It is a team sport that requires power, speed, synchronization and endurance. Dragon boat participant skills will range from novice to competitive though no experience is required.”

Teams at this weekend’s event represented local Western New York corporations, breast cancer survivors, police forces, firemen, and other community organizations. All teams had twenty (20) paddlers, one drummer (1)  and three (3) alternates. Race divisions were Club/Corporate/Community Mixed and Breast Cancer Survivors, comprised of eight women.

Freed Maxick won a silver medal in the “B” Division as well as “Best Costume” for our Flag Day theme!  Director Barb Danner is on the board at Hope Chest and pulled the team together, doing a great job as captain!
